Today, such communication would be instantaneous thanks to improvements in technology. While the thought of the founding fathers having a Youtube channel sounds interesting, fast communication between the United States and Great Britain has been around since 1858, when the first trans-Atlantic telegraph cable was laid. In fact, some forex traders still refer to the British pound as "cable" as a result. The talks represent a new start after previous talks ended with a stalemate. The stalemate was seen as broken by the G20 meeting, when Presidents Trump and Xi agreed to a truce on trade issues.
