Identify Today's Megatrends for Tomorrow's Gains | Luke Lango | Dear Reader, In yesterday’s letter, I mentioned that I’d share the details on three of the biggest hypergrowth investment trends in the world right now. I’ve spent a lot of time researching the megatrends below. I’m absolutely convinced that, by making the right investments in these trends, you can make more than 10X your money over the coming years. These are trends that I’ll be pounding the table for… A LOT. Let’s dive right in: Electric Vehicles Where there’s disruption, there’s opportunity. And there will be no greater disruption in the 2020s than the electrification of automobile transportation. 64.3 million new passenger cars were sold globally in 2019. Only 2.1 million of them (or 3.3%) were electric. But… - Demand is shifting (over 60% of prospective car buyers in the U.S. today want an EV, and Tesla’s cars are among the best-selling autos in the world)
- Laws are changing (California and New Jersey both just banned the sale of gas cars post-2035)
- Tech is improving (the average range of an EV has increased 140% since 2011, with a fully-charged EV now getting as much range as a gas car at 300 miles)
- Costs are falling (average EV prices have dropped 70% since 2010, with EV prices expected to fall below gas car prices within a few years)
- Supply is pivoting (every auto maker from Ford to GM is making an all-out blitz into the EV category)
The future couldn’t be any clearer. EVs are on the cusp of disrupting the multi-trillion-dollar auto market, and over the next two decades, will become globally ubiquitous. The right investments in the EV sector will score investors 10X, 20X, even 30X returns over the next few years. Self-Driving For years, self-driving was little more than a pipeline dream and a cool concept that showed up in science fiction movies. But this pipeline dream is on the cusp of turning into a world-changing, ubiquitous reality. Following decades of cutting-edge research and multiple breakthroughs in AI tech, laser sensor capability, and machine learning algorithms, self-driving technology has finally advanced to a point where the world’s leading companies in this space – like Waymo – are deploying workable self-driving cars on real roads across America… This is just step one. Over the next several years, these “test drives” will become more abundant, and eventually turn into commercially scalable operations, at which point self-driving technology will start to be incorporated into every single car on the road, fundamentally changing the way we travel. The last time we fundamentally changed the way we traveled? About 130 years ago, when we started transitioning from horses to cars. I’m not exaggerating when I say this is a 100-year change in the making… and as a once-in-a-century opportunity, there’s tons of money to be made in this emerging megatrend… with some investments offering up to 100X return potential. Clean Energy The history of clean energy – and in particular, solar power – has been riddled with false start after false start. But the emergence of clean energy and solar power on Wall Street is different. Way different. Never in the history of solar has literally every major trend shifted in favor of widespread residential and commercial solar adoption, including: - Widespread government support (more than 200 cities and counties across the world have a “100% clean energy” target for 2030, 2040, or 2050)
- Rapidly falling costs (solar energy costs have dropped 70% over the past 10 years, and solar is now the cheapest electricity source in history, according to the IEA)
- Dramatically improving technology (26% of solar systems will be paired with energy storage capability by 2025, versus just 4% in 2019)
- Quickly rising consumer demand (46% of U.S. homeowners are seriously thinking about adding solar panels to their homes today, up from 40% in 2016)
All of those trends are converging in 2021, setting the stage for solar to – over the next 10 to 20 years – turn into the ubiquitous clean energy backbone of our planet. Today, solar energy production accounts for just 6.8% of U.S. electricity generation, meaning that the path toward energy generation ubiquity by 2030 or 2040 implies enormous growth potential in the solar industry. It’s a megatrend like no other which you need to invest in right now. ***In the issues of Hypergrowth Investing, we will track the progress these emerging megatrends – and many, many more – in detail over the next several years as they go from nascent ideas, to disruptive realities. More than that, we will tell you about the most innovative and exciting companies in these megatrends; companies that, over the next few years, could soar anywhere from 10X to 100X. You’re not going to want to sit this one out… Regards, Luke Lango Editor, Hypergrowth Investing |
