| | December 14, 2020 | | | | Why is the internet always breaking? | This morning, Google suffered one of its most extensive outages ever. The crash impacted nearly every aspect of Google's cloud services, apps, email, and even Nest smart device systems. The incident hamstrung businesses and governments around the world in the early hours of the morning. If it seems like these sorts of outages are happening more often, you're not entirely wrong. The US government recently discovered that a critical piece of software, SolarWinds, was hacked by a foreign government and put at risk sensitive government information at nearly every level. Not only that, but the vast majority of Fortune 500 companies use that software on their servers. While there hasn't been an official announcement, IT experts are already connecting the dots.
As Google sorts through what happened, you can expect things to be a bit dicey in the coming days. Maybe having a backup of your backup isn't such a bad idea. | | Image source: The Verge | | Don't Miss These Headlines: | This smart home hub now works with Zoom | Spotify is forcing users to test a confusing desktop app | Buffett dumps Apple, buys this!
