Now, let's dig in! Image Source: CNBC A setback on the vaccine front caused the stock market to fall back slightly today. After encountering a production issue, Pfizer will now only distribute about half of the vaccine doses it had originally intended. The news caused shares to fall over 2%.
After a 200-point gain earlier, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was 50 points ahead by day's end. The S&P 500 experienced a loss, while the Nasdaq Composite saw a minor gain.
Also today, the Labor Department released its latest look at initial jobless claims-which tallied 712,000. This number was much better than the 780,000 that economists had predicted.
Tomorrow investors will digest the department's November employment report.
"With some rumblings of stimulus progress and positive momentum on the vaccine front, labor market watchers could be ever hopeful for a more meaningful decrease in jobless claims in the long run," Mike Loewengart, of E-Trade Financial, said.

Image Source: South China Morning Post Facebook has had one heck of a year when it comes to lawsuits and legal challenges.
And now, things look like they're about to get worse. That's because a group of states, led by the state of New York, are investigating the company for antitrust violations and will launch a formal lawsuit against Facebook next week.
That would make it the second major lawsuit Facebook has faced this year.
According to one source, more than 40 states plan to join in on the lawsuit, though no one is naming who plans to take part.
So far, Facebook has declined to comment.
Maybe that's because they're waiting to see if the Federal Trade Commission will file a related complaint in the district court in the coming days and weeks.
