Our Awe-Inspiring Universe Through a Cosmologist’s Lens

Dear Loyal Reader,

As humans, we experience something no other species can: extravagance.

Amid all the chaos and beauty of life on Earth, only we can stop what we're doing and wonder: "Where did we come from?" and "What is life all about?"

In fact, some have even dedicated their careers to answering these questions. This field of study is known as "cosmology."

And my next guest is the ultimate cosmologist.

At age 12, Dr. Brian Keating peered into the cosmos through his $50 telescope and instantly fell in love.

Almost 40 years later, he's still looking through the lens. And others have looked with him.

In 2010, his team of scientists built the mother of all telescopes and nearly won the Nobel Prize.

After their tough loss, Dr. Keating began studying the prize's origins. His findings led him to write Losing the Nobel Prize: A Story of Cosmology, Ambition, and the Perils of Science's Highest Honor.

Dr. Keating and I discuss his captivating book in this week's episode. And there's no greater day to share our conversation than on the 52nd anniversary of the moon landing.
