| |  | December 21, 2020 | | | | | The stimulus bill will impact this controversial company | Lawmakers have finally agreed to a new $900 billion stimulus bill this week. Interestingly, the package includes $1.9 billion set aside to "rip and replace" Huawei equipment used in the telecom industry.
The line item isn't entirely surprising, as Huawei has long been a target of the US government over its ties to China's Communist regime. But the fact that lawmakers were able to agree on such a significant amount of funding on a project to rid the industry of Huawei equipment is impressive.
ZTE, another mobile tech company connected to the Chinese government, was also named in the bill. While the controversy surrounding ZTE is less known, the situation surrounding the company has evolved over the last few months.
