Economy & Markets' Weekend Digest

Economy & Markets in Review

The Economy & Markets team was busy this week. In addition to putting out our weekly slate of analysis – with stories this week on Miami's housing bubble, the home price index, government spending, and our country's immigration issues – Harry and Rodney were putting the finishing touches on their presentations for this year's Irrational Economic Summit, to be held Thursday through Saturday (Oct. 10-12) at the National Harbor in Washington DC.

We hope you've purchased your ticket to this year's conference – keynoted by Reagan administration Budget Director David Stockman and featuring such speakers as Dr. Lacy Hunt, Gordon Chang, and Dent Research analysts Charles Sizemore, John Del Vecchio, and Adam O'Dell. You can get information about tickets and accommodations here.

And if you can't make it to Washington next week, be sure to tune into our livestream. We'll have the whole conference running via video feed, so you can watch from your own home.

Thank you so much for reading, and we'll see you in Washington next week!

Previewing Irrational Economic Summit

We're less than one week out from this year's Irrational Economic Summit, and let me tell you, we could not have picked a better place to hold this year's conference. Washington DC in the middle of this political climate? Just perfect. And we couldn't have a better keynote: David Stockman, the former Congressman and Budget...

Home Price Index Moves Toward Zero … What's Your Plan?

The real estate industry must have the best lobbyists in the country. How else can you explain that a data-driven transaction – buying or selling a home – has become more onerous, and more cumbersome. And overall more painful even as information becomes cheaper and easier to get? These guys are protecting their turf, and...

Miami the First U.S. Real Estate Bubble to Burst?

Earlier this week I read a great article by Kuppy at Adventures In Capitalism. It brought back memories of the last condo and real estate bubble in Miami… I was there. I was moving to Tampa and sold before the crash that I was nearly alone in forecasting in late 2005 . Kuppy noted that prices...

The Law Won't Protect Your Money

I'm tired of the impeachment talk and it hasn't really started yet. With the House working on impeachment inquiries in several committees, we'll get a healthy dose of political doublespeak from everyone involved for at least the rest of this year. It's already started to crowd other stories out of the news cycle. But we...
